VIBECUT / FIELD NOTES

Make your first cut.

Start with a short recording. A small first project makes it easier to check the picture, sound, and changes before editing a full episode.

1. Install on your Mac.

The current developer preview supports Apple silicon Macs with macOS 12 or later. Download the signed and notarized installer, open the .dmg, and drag Vibecut into Applications. Launch it from Applications. Account access is required to use the workspace; installing the preview does not guarantee that a new account can be activated.

Downloading the 0.4.3 developer preview does not place an order, start a paid term, or add credits. The separate $5 Early Bird offer starts only on explicit activation after delivery. Your account shows current purchase availability. If you can sign in, check your account for current access and credits before using cloud tools.

2. Create a project and import media.

Create a project, give it a recognizable name, and import a short video or audio recording into Media. Add the material to the timeline. Keep the source files accessible on your Mac; a synced project is not a replacement for a backup of the original media.

Use the preview and audio playback to check the source before asking for edits. If a clip is missing, check that its file is still available in the location you imported it from.

3. Give one specific direction.

Select the clip you want to change. In Edit, describe a bounded change such as its size or position, an audio level, or a title’s appearance. Basic property edits do not require a full footage analysis first.

“Make this clip half its current size and place it in the upper-left corner.”

Review the proposed changes before applying them. Inspect the timeline and preview afterward, and use Undo or edit history when you want to revisit a choice. Edit history changes your project; it does not reverse charges for completed cloud generation.

Use Analyze when the task needs information about what happens in a recording. Choose a profile and either Audio only or Video + audio, then check the sources and maximum Creative Credit quote before running it. Podcast starts with Audio only; use Video + audio when the edit needs information about faces, framing, on-screen text, or actions. Analysis uses the full source duration, with each unique source rounded up to a started minute separately. Changing the goal or mode may require fresh analysis and a new quote. For a conversational recording, follow the podcast workflow.

4. Export a short test.

Play the edit from beginning to end, then export a short version from the Mac app. Open the output in a separate player and check the first and last frames, sound level, captions, and any masks or effects.

A successful timeline preview is useful, but checking the exported file catches mistakes before you share a full episode. Keep both the project and source media so you can revise it later.

If something does not look right.

  • AI task unavailable: check your connection and account access. Preserve the exact error and request ID before retrying.
  • Captions need work: try a short selection with clear speech, then inspect sentence timing and wording on the timeline. Overlapping speakers, music, and specialized names may need correction.
  • A preview looks different from export: note the timestamp, selected effect or mask, and app version. A short example helps support reproduce it.
